07 Spreading Like Waves

It was love at first sight when the inhabitants of Trégastel first learned about Cycling Without Age.

In this beautiful seaside town on the pink granite coast of Bretagne in France, the enthusiasm for the project spread faster than the waves came rolling in.

The retirement home could not wait to get started when they heard about the idea. A passionate local person immediately took upon himself the task of contacting all the local merchants, which then prompted the city council to say it would back the project financially, should that be needed. Only a few days after learning about Cycling Without Age, the trishaw was ordered and on its way. And what a summer it has been.

A good number of citizens volunteered to be pilots, and the bike has been out and about six days almost every week. Locals and tourists from all over the world have been waving and interacting with passengers and pilots. The elders of the town have once again been shopping at the market, smelling the lavender and watching the sunsets. Just the way they used to. One sunny day in September it all came full circle when a pilot took the two super grandmas, Annie and Malou, for a three hour ride to see their old neighbourhoods.Already illuminated by the sun and all the memories,

Already illuminated by the sun and all the memories, the tour became complete when the trio by chance met Annie’s daughter and had a good chat with her. It was just like before. Before, when Annie still lived at home.Since then we have seen fall and winter, but the enthusiasm

Since then we have seen fall and winter, but the enthusiasm has not left Trégastel. Almost every day the red hood of the trishaw can be seen out and about, and is a symbol of how much joy can be found when all parts of a town come together to create, enjoy and experience.
